Summarize a web page with the Automatio Chrome extension
Ask the side panel to read your current tab and provide a condensed version of the content. You get back a summary based on your specific focus or length requirements.
What to ask
Type it in the Automatio side panel in Chrome, with the page open. Send it as written, or change the details to fit your case.
Summarize @page into three bullet points. Focus specifically on the [product features] and [pricing details] mentioned in the text.
How it works
- 1
Open the side panel
Click the Automatio toolbar icon in Chrome to open the interface next to your current page.
- 2
Reference the page text
Type
@pagein the composer to include the text of the active tab in your request. - 3
Submit your prompt
Add your specific instructions for the summary and press enter to let the AI process the text.
What you get
The AI generates a summary directly in the side panel. It uses the text extracted from your current tab to answer.
Check the result against the original page to ensure it captured the context you need. If the page is very long, the AI only reads the first 15,000 characters, so you may need to summarize specific sections separately if they appear later in the document.
Good to know
- The agent reads up to 15,000 characters of text per page.
- Summarizing content uses credits from your Automatio account.
- The @page command does not work on PDFs, chrome:// pages, or the Chrome Web Store.
- The extension requires Chrome 125 or newer to run.
Variations to try
Summarize a selection
Highlight a passage on the site, right-click it, and choose Ask Automatio. Then type: Explain this @selection as if I am a beginner.
Create a summary table
Summarize the main arguments on @page into a table with columns for Point, Supporting Evidence, and Counter-argument.
Questions
Can I summarize a PDF file?
The @page command cannot read PDFs open in Chrome's viewer. You can use @screenshot to capture the visible part of the PDF or @url to pass the address to the agent.
What happens if a page is longer than 15,000 characters?
The extension cuts off any text beyond the 15,000-character limit. If you need to summarize the end of a long article, highlight that section specifically and use @selection instead.
Does summarizing a page cost extra?
It costs nothing beyond the AI usage credits already included in your Automatio account. Each request you send from the side panel uses your standard account balance.
