Add Automatio's MCP server to Cursor

Connect Automatio's MCP server to Cursor to give your coding assistant live web access. You can search for libraries, read documentation, and pull market data directly into your workspace.

What to ask

Type it in your AI app once Automatio is connected. Send it as written, or change the details to fit your case.

Read the documentation at [URL] and explain how to use their API to update a user record. Use the web_read_url tool to get the page content first.

How it works

  1. 1

    Edit the configuration file

Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json for a global setup, or create .cursor/mcp.json in your project root to keep it local.

  2. 2

    Add the server entry

Add {"mcpServers":{"automatio":{"url":"https://automatio.ai/api/v1/mcp"}}} to the file. If you use an API key, add "headers":{"Authorization":"Bearer ${env:AUTOMATIO_KEY}"} to the automatio object.

  3. 3

    Restart and sign in

Restart Cursor to apply the changes. Cursor runs the sign-in flow in a browser window on the first use; follow the prompts to allow the connection and set your daily credit limit.

  4. 4

    Manage and use tools

Check Customize > MCPs to see the status of your connection. Once active, ask the AI in the chat or composer to use a tool like web_search or web_read_url.

What you get

Cursor receives the data directly from Automatio's tools and uses it to answer your prompt. If you asked to read a page, the main content appears in the chat as markdown. Each response includes a report showing the exact number of credits used for that call.

You should verify that the tool call was successful by checking the output for the specific data or text you requested. If you are using screenshots, Automatio returns a hosted image link for you to view.

Good to know

  • A sign-in connection is limited to five tools: web_search, web_read_url, web_screenshot, crypto_get_prices, and crypto_get_market_data.
  • You must restart Cursor after manually editing the mcp.json file for the server to be recognized.
  • Each individual tool call is restricted to a 60-second execution window.
  • The daily credit limit and tool set chosen during the sign-in process cannot be modified without revoking and reconnecting.

Variations to try

Search for documentation

Search the web for the latest [library] release notes and summarize the breaking changes.

Capture a screenshot

Take a full page screenshot of [URL] in dark mode and give me the image link.

Check crypto data

Get the current market data for the top 10 coins by market cap using the crypto_get_market_data tool.

Questions

What does it cost to use Automatio in Cursor?

You pay for each tool call using your Automatio credits. Prices range from 1 credit for a search or page read to 15 credits for specialized tools like X or YouTube (which require an API key). Connecting the server and listing tools does not cost anything.

Can I use my own API key instead of signing in?

Yes, you can add an Automatio API key by including the Authorization header in your mcp.json file. This allows you to use a wider range of tools, including Reddit, YouTube, and X, which are not available through the standard sign-in connection.

What happens if I run out of credits?

If your account balance reaches zero or you hit your chosen daily credit limit, tool calls will stop working until the limit resets at midnight UTC or you add more credits. The server will return an error message to Cursor indicating the limit has been reached.

Is my code or private data shared with Automatio?

Automatio only sees the specific parameters you send to its tools, such as a URL to read or a search query. It does not have access to your Cursor chats, local files, or environment variables unless you explicitly include them in a tool call.
