Add Automatio's MCP server to Gemini CLI

You ask Gemini CLI to search the web, read pages, or fetch crypto data, and it calls Automatio's tools to retrieve the information. The results appear as markdown text or image links directly in your terminal session.

What to ask

Type it in your AI app once Automatio is connected. Send it as written, or change the details to fit your case.

Search for the most recent updates on [topic] and provide the titles and links for the top 5 results. Then, read the content of the first link and summarize the main points.

How it works

  1. 1

    Register the server

Open your terminal and run gemini mcp add --transport http automatio https://automatio.ai/api/v1/mcp to register the Automatio server.

  2. 2

    Choose an authentication method

To sign in with OAuth, run /mcp auth automatio to open a browser window. To use an API key, add --header "Authorization: Bearer <key>" to the registration command.

  3. 3

    Verify tools and limits

During the OAuth sign-in, choose a daily credit limit of 500, 2,000, or 10,000 credits. Confirm the tool list and press Allow to finish the connection.

  4. 4

    Start a session

Ask Gemini to perform a task like a web search. The model will call the web_search or web_read_url tools and display the credits spent in the response.

What you get

The Gemini CLI displays the raw data retrieved by the tool, such as ranked search results or the main text of a webpage in markdown format. You can then ask the model to analyze this data or perform follow-up tasks.

Every response includes a report of the credits consumed for that specific call. Check these reports to monitor your daily balance and ensure you stay within your chosen limit.

Good to know

  • Each tool call is limited to a 60-second execution time.
  • A sign-in connection is restricted to exactly five tools: web search, page reading, screenshots, and two crypto tools.
  • The credit limit and tool set for a sign-in connection cannot be modified after authorization without revoking and reconnecting.
  • Automatio's MCP server does not support browser automation, Gmail access, or running custom scripts.

Variations to try

Read a specific webpage

Read the main content of [URL] and extract all the mentioned project deadlines into a bulleted list.

Get crypto market data

Get a ranked list of the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap and show their 24h price change.

Take a website screenshot

Take a full page screenshot of [URL] in dark mode and provide the link to the image.

Questions

How much does each tool call cost?

Each tool has a fixed price per call. Web searches and page reading cost 1 credit each, screenshots cost 2 credits, and crypto price data costs 3 to 5 credits. These credits are deducted from your Automatio account balance.

Can I use more tools than the basic five?

Yes, but you must use an Automatio API key instead of the browser sign-in. API keys can be configured under Integrations to include tools for Reddit, YouTube, X, and other providers.

What happens if I hit my daily credit limit?

The server will stop responding to calls until midnight UTC. You can view your current usage under Integrations in your Automatio account, where you can also revoke the connection to reset it with a different limit if needed.
