Edit WordPress menus and navigation with Automatio
Ask the agent to add items to your menus, reorder navigation blocks, or update template parts like footers. It uses the WordPress REST API to apply changes and returns the previous configuration so you can put it back if needed.
What to ask
Type it in the Automatio chat. Send it as written, or change the details to fit your case.
On my site [yoursite.com], please add a new link to the main navigation menu for 'Summer Sale' that points to /category/deals/. Also, move the 'Contact Us' item to the end of the menu.
How it works
- 1
Connect your site
In Automatio, go to Integrations, select Apps, choose WordPress, and type your site's HTTPS address.
- 2
Authorize the agent
Log in to your WordPress site when the authorization screen appears and click Approve to grant access.
- 3
Request a change
Open the chat, name your site, and describe the specific menu or navigation edits you want to make.
- 4
Review and verify
The agent performs the edit and returns the new state along with the previous value for your records.
What you get
The agent confirms the update to your menu or navigation block in the chat. It provides the previous data so you can ask it to revert the change if the layout is not correct.
Check your live site to confirm the new links, labels, or widget placements appear correctly on the front end. If you are using a block theme, the agent can also update template parts like headers and footers.
Good to know
- The agent cannot edit theme files or Additional CSS.
- Your site must use HTTPS and have Application Passwords enabled to connect.
- Security plugins or firewalls that block REST API traffic will prevent the agent from working.
- Work performed by the agent uses your account's processing credits.
Variations to try
Update footer widgets
On [yoursite.com], add a text widget to the footer template part that says 'Open daily from 9am' right above the social links.
Rename menu items
On my site [yoursite.com], rename the 'About' menu item to 'Our Story' and change its link to point to /our-story/.
Reorder navigation blocks
In the header of [yoursite.com], move the 'Blog' navigation link so it appears before the 'Services' link.
Questions
Do I need to install a plugin?
No plugin is required. Automatio connects through the standard WordPress application password system after you sign in and approve access on your own site's authorization screen.
Can I undo a menu change?
Yes. The agent returns the previous value of the menu or template part it edited, so you can ask it to restore the old version in the next message.
Does this work with block themes?
Yes, the agent can edit navigation blocks, templates, and template parts used by modern block themes through the REST API.
What if my site is not on HTTPS?
Automatio requires an HTTPS connection to communicate with the WordPress REST API safely. Sites using plain HTTP are not supported.
