Answer questions in a Discord server with Automatio
Configure an AI helper to answer community questions using your specific knowledge and persona. It can monitor up to 25 channels and respond to mentions, providing helpful support to your members automatically.
What to ask
Type it in the Automatio chat. Send it as written, or change the details to fit your case.
Change my server helper settings. Set the persona to: 'A helpful moderator for a coding community.' Use this knowledge base: [Paste your 6,000 character FAQ or documentation here]. Enable the helper to listen in the #support and #getting-started channels.
How it works
- 1
Add the bot
Invite the bot to your server from the Automatio integrations page. You must have the 'Manage Server' permission to complete the installation.
- 2
Configure the helper
Ask your agent to 'change the helper's settings' or use the dashboard. Provide a persona of up to 2,000 characters and a knowledge base of up to 6,000 characters.
- 3
Choose channels
Select up to 25 channels where the helper will automatically answer questions without being mentioned. In other channels, it only replies when a member @mentions it.
- 4
Enable tools
Decide which roles can use tools like
web search,Reddit search, orlooking at attached picturesto get more detailed answers.
What you get
The helper begins answering questions in your chosen channels. It provides short replies under 1,500 characters that are based strictly on the knowledge you provided and any enabled search tools.
Every response includes a mandatory footer stating it is an AI assistant. You will see that it automatically strips out links you have not approved and never pings users, keeping your server notifications clean.
Good to know
- The server owner pays credits for every reply and every automated check the AI performs to see if a message is a question.
- Default usage is capped at 15 replies per member and 300 per server each day, though the owner can adjust these limits.
- The helper's knowledge base is limited to 6,000 characters of text.
- The bot will not answer if it has been denied access to a channel via Discord permissions.
Variations to try
Search-enabled support
Update the helper for my server. Allow the 'Member' role to use `web search` and `Reddit search` when asking questions so they can find the latest tech news.
Visual assistant
Set the helper persona to 'Expert Designer'. Enable the `looking at attached pictures` tool so members can get feedback on their UI screenshots in the #design-review channel.
Restricted channel helper
Turn on the helper for my server but only allow it to respond in #faq. Set the knowledge base to the following text: [Paste FAQ text].
Questions
Do my server members need an Automatio account?
No, members do not need an account or their own credits to use the helper. The server owner provides the credits and manages the settings for everyone.
Is my community data used for AI training?
No, Automatio only uses models that do not train on your prompts for the helper feature. Messages are read to provide context for an answer but are not stored long-term.
What happens if I run out of credits?
The helper will stop responding to questions immediately. It will send a private notification to the server owner to let them know the balance is empty.
Can the helper moderate my server?
The helper itself only answers questions, but you can name a team of moderators who are allowed to ask it for specific server changes. Those changes still require the owner's final approval.
