Summarize a Discord channel with Automatio

Ask your agent to read recent messages in a specific channel to catch up on what you missed. It provides a summary of key points, who said what, and any pending tasks from the last 50 messages.

What to ask

Type it in the Automatio chat. Send it as written, or change the details to fit your case.

Read the recent messages in the [channel-name] channel and summarize what the team decided, which questions remain unanswered, and who asked for a follow-up.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add the bot

From the Automatio Integrations page, add the bot to your server. This links the server to your account and allows the agent to interact with your channels.

  2. 2

    Check channel access

Ensure the bot's role has the View Channels permission for the channel you want to summarize. If the channel denies the role, the agent cannot read the messages.

  3. 3

    Request the summary

Type /ask followed by your request in any channel or DM. Specify the name of the channel you want the agent to review.

What you get

The agent returns a summary of the most recent activity in the channel. It identifies specific speakers, highlights decisions made during the conversation, and lists any unresolved questions.

You should review the summary to ensure it captured the context correctly, as it only looks at the most recent 50 messages. The response is private to you by default.

Good to know

  • The agent reads a maximum of 50 recent messages in the specified channel.
  • Summarizing messages uses credits from your Automatio account.
  • The bot cannot read or summarize private Direct Messages.
  • You must have Manage Server permissions to add the bot for this task.

Questions

Can it summarize an entire week of chat?

No, the agent is limited to reading the 50 most recent messages in a channel when you ask. It does not store older messages or maintain a long-term memory of every conversation.

Who can see the summary?

By default, the response to your /ask command is private to you. You can choose the public reply option if you want to share the summary with the rest of the channel.

Does this work in private channels?

It works if the bot's role has been granted permission to view that private channel. If the bot is blocked by channel-specific permissions, it will tell you it cannot read the messages.
