Set up Discord channels and roles with Automatio
Ask your agent to build the structure of your Discord server. It can create categories, text or voice channels, and roles while setting specific permissions for you to review.
What to ask
Type it in the Automatio chat. Send it as written, or change the details to fit your case.
Create a new category called 'Community Hub' with three text channels: 'rules', 'announcements', and 'general-chat'. Also, create a 'Moderator' role and set the 'rules' channel so that only Moderators can send messages, while everyone else can only read them.
How it works
- 1
Add the bot to your server
Visit Automatio and use the option to add the bot to a server you manage. You must have the Manage Server permission to link it to your Automatio account.
- 2
Send your request
Use the
/askcommand or mention the bot to describe the channels and roles you want to create. Be specific about names, categories, and which roles should have access. - 3
Review and approve
The agent will create channels and categories immediately. For role creation or permission changes, it presents a plan and waits for you to press
Approve.
What you get
The agent creates the requested channels and categories in your server immediately. For more sensitive tasks like making new roles or editing permissions, it shows you a summary of the changes first. You must click the approval button in the chat for these specific changes to take effect. Once approved, you can verify the results in your Discord server settings and channel lists.
Good to know
- Role creation and permission changes require you to click
Approvebefore they take effect. - The agent cannot grant the Administrator permission to any role.
- It cannot act on any role that is positioned at or above its own role in the server hierarchy.
- Creating channels and events runs immediately without a separate approval step.
Variations to try
Set up a forum channel
Create a forum channel named 'feature-requests' inside the 'Development' category. Make it so everyone can start threads.
Establish a private staff area
Create a private category called 'Staff Only' and a 'Staff' role. Set the permissions so only users with the 'Staff' role can see or access this category.
Questions
Can I let my moderators use this?
You can name a team of moderators who can request these changes. However, the server owner must still press the button to approve role or permission updates.
What does this cost to run?
Every request to the agent uses Automatio credits. The amount depends on the model you use and the complexity of the instructions.
Does it have access to my server settings?
The bot uses the permissions you grant during installation, such as Manage Channels and Manage Roles. It only makes changes when you specifically ask it to do so.
