Update a Google Sheet automatically with Automatio

You tell the agent how to change your data based on specific rules, like updating a status column when a date passes. It reads your current range, applies your logic, and overwrites the cells with the new values.

What to ask

Type it in the Automatio chat. Send it as written, or change the details to fit your case.

Read cells A1 to C50 in this spreadsheet [link]. If the value in column B is 'Completed', update column C in that same row to say 'Archived'.

How it works

  1. 1

    Connect Google Sheets

In Automatio, go to Integrations and select the Google Drive & Sheets tile to sign in with your Google account.

  2. 2

    Identify your sheet

Paste the link to your spreadsheet in the chat or ask the agent to list sheets you have previously opened.

  3. 3

    Set your logic

Describe the rule for the update, such as changing a status column based on the values found in a different column.

  4. 4

    Apply the updates

The agent reads the range, prepares the new data, and overwrites the specified cells to reflect the changes.

What you get

The agent reads the original data to understand the context and then sends the updated values back to your sheet. You will see the new values appear in the cells you targeted, overwriting what was previously there.

You should verify that the logic was applied correctly to the specific rows you intended to change. The agent will confirm in the chat once the update is finished.

Good to know

  • Updating a range or appending rows adds 1 credit to the cost of the AI usage.
  • The tool can overwrite existing data but it cannot clear ranges or delete rows.
  • It cannot add or rename tabs in a spreadsheet that already exists.
  • Automated updates must be at least 5 minutes apart and require a balance of 1,000 credits to run.

Variations to try

Schedule a weekly update

Every Friday at 4 PM, check the 'Task List' sheet. If column G is empty and the date in column F is in the past, update column G to 'Late'.

Update from email data

Check my recent emails for [Project Name] and update the 'Last Contact' column in my spreadsheet with the date of the latest email.

Apply calculations

Read columns B and C in my 'Sales' sheet. Multiply them to get the total and update column D with the result for every row.

Questions

Can I automate these updates?

Yes. You can ask for a request to repeat, such as every morning or every Friday. The agent creates the plan and schedule in a paused state, and you must press Resume on the Automations page in the sidebar to start it.

What is the cost for each update?

Each time the agent updates a range or appends a row, it adds 1 credit to the cost of the AI work. Reading or listing spreadsheets adds nothing extra beyond the AI's own credit usage.

How does it access my spreadsheets?

The agent can see sheets you have created or opened through Automatio, up to a limit of 100. For any other sheet, you just need to paste the link directly into the chat.

Is my data used for training?

No. Automatio's use of Google API data follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including Limited Use, and your data is not used to train AI models.
