Search Gmail with AI using Automatio
Ask the AI to find messages using natural language or Gmail search syntax. It returns a list of matching emails with snippets or full bodies if you request them.
What to ask
Type it in the Automatio chat. Send it as written, or change the details to fit your case.
Find all unread emails from [Name] sent in the last week about the [Project] project. List their subjects and give me a brief summary of what each one asks for.
How it works
- 1
Connect your account
Go to the Integrations page in Automatio, select the
Gmailtile, and sign in with your Google account. - 2
Choose your model
Select your preferred AI model in the chat settings. Google Gemini will process the raw data first regardless of which model you pick.
- 3
Send a search request
Type your search criteria in the chat. You can use natural language or standard Gmail search operators like
has:attachmentorfrom:me. - 4
Review the results
The agent returns matching emails. It shows snippets by default but can provide full message bodies if you ask for them.
What you get
The agent provides a list of emails that match your search criteria. By default, it includes the subject, sender, date, and a brief snippet of the message content. If you specifically asked for summaries or full text, it will extract that information from the messages it found.
You should verify that the emails returned are the ones you intended to find, especially before asking the agent to reply to or organize them. The agent can navigate through up to 100 messages per page.
Good to know
- Searching and reading emails costs nothing beyond the AI's own usage.
- The agent can list up to 100 messages per page using paging.
- Google Gemini reads the raw data first if you choose a model from another provider.
- The agent cannot search for or restore mail that has been permanently deleted.
Variations to try
Find specific attachments
Find all emails from [Company] with PDF attachments sent during October. Just list the file names and the dates they were received.
Search by label and status
Show me the 10 most recent unread messages that have the [Label Name] label.
Use Gmail search syntax
Search my Gmail for `from:finance has:attachment newer_than:30d` and summarize any that mention an invoice.
Questions
Does searching my email cost credits?
Finding and reading emails adds no extra cost beyond the AI's own usage. You only spend 1 credit when you ask the agent to send, reply, or forward a message.
Is my Gmail data used to train the AI?
No. Automatio follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, which includes limited use requirements. Your Gmail data is not used to train AI models.
Can I search for messages in my Trash?
The agent can find messages you have moved to the Trash, as Gmail keeps them there for 30 days. However, it cannot restore them or find messages that were permanently deleted.
